Additional information

This work results from a multi-disciplinary EPSRC project (EP/F016441/1) at the interface between engineering and chemistry, in which we developed an automated flow process for the screening and scale-up of syntheses of polyoxometalates and single-molecule magnets. This was achieved by programming a multiple-pump reactor system array to explore rapidly the complex parameter space than is conventionally possible, as well as a discovery tool for novel materials. The automation system has been further developed and tested in other material types. Our work led to new EPSRC grants to apply our technology to other complex materials and also to a patent (WO/2013/050764).
