Additional information

This paper proposes a way to generate Radio Frequency AC power with active devices that operate at much lower frequency, thereby drastically reducing switching losses and achieving high efficiency. At the same time, the proposed system enables power control without having to vary the frequency. These two properties are of immense importance to the RF industry, relating to critical issues of energy saving and Electro-Magnetic Interference. The paper attracted the interest of TWI UK and their partner, Coaxial Power Systems Ltd, with whom an EPSRC First Grant proposal, on RF power conversion for plasma, was recently submitted.
