Additional information

The impact of this paper was the fully automatic generation of a 3D synthesised face using a single 2D frontal image of a human face. The synthesised 3D face is then animated to emulate facial expressions with the help of a user interface. The modelled faced parameters have then been compressed for very low bit video coding (VLBR). The VLBR model-based algorithm has been patented (UK Patents 0410191.1 and 0410190.3) and then cited by various researchers. A demonstrator prototype and a user interface for 3D face animation have also been developed. <EPSRC grant>
