<10>Since the introduction by Khoussainov and Nerode in 1995 of the notion of a structure being FA-presentable there has been a great deal of interest in determining which structures have this property. The results in this paper have had an impact on further developments; for example, they enabled Jain et al to prove in their paper “On semiautomatic structures” that every ordered FA-presentable group is abelian and also show that the situation described by Cain and Ruskuc in “Subalgebras of FA-presentable algebras” (where an FA-presentable algebra can have a non-FA-presentable finitely generated subalgelbra) cannot happen in groups.
