Mitigation of power system oscillation caused by wind power fluctuation
Periodically fluctuating wind power may cause serious power oscillations in power systems, thus threatening grid security and limiting wind power integration. This paper resulting from collaboration with colleagues in Denmark investigates the power oscillation caused by the 3p oscillation from wind shear and tower shadow effects. Various wind turbine conditions are studied and three types of oscillation mitigation controllers are proposed to mitigate the oscillations. The new controllers’ performances were analysed and the controllers’ effectiveness of mitigating the forced oscillation verified. The work contributes to power grid security and promotes large scale wind power penetration in power systems.
