Additional information

A new approach was developed for assessing energy efficiency of railway brake discs, through collaboration with a leading railway brake manufacturer, Faiveley Transport. Contact: John Watson, R&D Manager, Faiveley Transport UK, john.watson@faiveleytransport.com. This is a continuation of research ideas for simultaneously improving cooling and reducing pumping losses, initiated within a previous EPSRC grant (GR/M43562/01) to Cranfield. The procedure is now used for selecting the most effective design for a specific train operating duty (route).
