First application of deposition technique for functional devices, funded by EPSRC (GR/84156/01) and EC (MIND [Multifunctional & Integrated Piezoelectric Device] FP6-NMP 515757). Applications have led to scale-up research (including funding from National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 50905027) and Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China (No. 20090041120041) and development of novel coatings for faecal matter (http://nanomembranetoilet.org/index.php) funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, providing sanitation in developing countries (Carl Hensman; carl.hensman@gatesfoundation.org). Tillman and Dorey have shown consequent property enhancements for acoustic emission structural health monitoring systems which is being commercially explored (DOI 10.1007/s10853-012-6810-7).
