This paper was the result of a close collaboration with the Italian Society of Hypertension. The method proposed were translated in clinical practice and were employed by the Italian NHS in the Hypertension Outpatient Clinic of the Regione Campania (Prof Nicola De Luca, nideluca@unina.it). Based upon this paper, the SHARE project, funded by the Italian Research Council and by European Commission (grant number PON04a3_139, £397k, PI Dr Paolo Melillo, paolomelillo85@gmail.com), was awarded for a period from June 2012-June 2015. In this project, the method proposed in the paper have been adapted for the long-term management of patients at home.
