This paper introduced the citizen science project "Galaxy Zoo", which Thomas initiated with his PhD student Schawinski, in collaboration with Lintott. This core team selected the galaxy samples and designed the decision-tree used for web classifications of galaxy morphology. Further team members subsequently joined with relevant expertise such as web design and to undertake data analysis. The initial draft of the paper was written by Lintott and Schawinski, with Thomas providing input throughout.
