Additional information

This paper is an output from EPSRC grants EP/H023194/1 (PI G. Lucas, in collaboration with Leeds University and Cambridge University) and EP/E013031/1 (CI G. Lucas) and describes a novel multi-electrode electromagnetic flow meter for measuring velocity profiles in stratified multiphase flows, such as horizontal and inclined oil-in-water and solids-in-water flows. It is believed that the technique described in this paper represents the first ever successful application of electromagnetic flow metering to velocity PROFILE measurement in multiphase flows. A patent application (first named inventor G. Lucas) for the instrumentation and methods described in this paper has been filed (PCT/GB2011/000600).
