Additional information

In railway vehicle traction systems, it is necessary to reduce the occurrences of excessive creep age between the wheel and rail (or roller) surfaces to avoid wheel slip/slide and a decrease in traction effort. The paper reports a research about a method for detecting wheel slip/slide and re-adhesion control of AC traction motors in railway applications. The output of this paper enables a better utilisation of available adhesion between wheels and rails, and could also reduce wheel wear by reducing high creep age values.
