Additional information

This output addresses femoral stem wear in replacement hip joints. Wear is highlighted as a source of debris and corrosion. The relationship between stem surface finish and wear is discussed and the first successful attempt to reproduce femoral stem wear through in-vitro testing is summarised. A model for the initiation and propagation of femoral stem wear is proposed. This work was the culmination of two PhD projects, one industry sponsored led to use of the techniques to study taper wear in THRs as part of a major collaborative project with DePuy J&J (~£500K) (PI L Blunt).
