<26> Extracting architectural footprints of buildings from maps of different time periods is a laborious task. By aligning archive maps to accurate modern vector data we speed up this process significantly. This work formed part of a contribution to an EU FP7 project (3D-COFORM) and led to an article in New Scientist (http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20927986.000-ancient-buildings-brought-to-life-from-historic-maps.html). The techniques developed were utilised in the KTP entitled HistOracle, in partnership with the School of History (UEA) and the Heritage, Economic and Regeneration Trust.
