Double-weighted statement

This output is proposed as double-weighted. It results from three years' full time research (two of it funded by a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship). Given the nature of the hypothesis on which it is based (namely, that something of the achievement of Bach's Passions is connected with his relation to western modernity), this project required study in interdisciplinary fields that were hitherto unfamiliar: theoretical and historical definitions of modernity; theories of early modern subjectivity; and issues of historical time consciousness.
