Additional information

This work for the first time proved that the high-order lattice Boltzmann model can reduce to linearised kinetic BGK equation which lays the foundation for lattice Boltzmann modelling of rarefied gas dynamics. Led to a new EPSRC research grant EP/I036117/1 valued at £350k. Opened up international research collaborations with MIT, USA (Hadjiconstantinou: ngh@MIT.EDU) on rarefied gas dynamics, leading to a joint publication (10.1017/jfm.2012.616) and researcher exchanges; and researcher exchanges with Xi'an Jiaotong University (Tang: ghtang@mail.xjtu.edu.cn) addressing flow in porous media funded by Royal Society of Edinburgh – National Natural Science Foundation of China (443570/NNS/INT): June 2013-May 2015.
