Additional information

After 40 years of trying, tunnel barrier layers can now be grown with the precision, accuracy and reproducibility needed for manufacture. Kelly's team is in the process of making one million microwave detector diodes for 50-100GHZ applications. Initial interest has been expressed by E2V (ID_in_audit_file@e2v.com) and Linwave Technology (ID_in_audit_file@linwave.co.uk) to evaluate the devices for civil and military applications. World markets for 30-200GHz device technology exceeds USD100M and is growing rapidly: (http://www.marketsandmarkets.com/Market-Reports/millimeter-wave-technology-market-981.html).

Royal Society Brian Mercer Feasibility Award won (RG71702, GBP30k, Aug 2013) to support commercialisation.
