Double-weighted statement

This is a single-authored monograph based on substantial original research carried out over a period of ten years that lays out a new and original approach to understanding the cultural context of electricity during the nineteenth century. It required the synthesis of a particularly extensive and varied range of primary material drawn from a wide range of sources. Identifying and locating some of this material in itself required substantial research. It offers a complex and challenging thesis that suggests the need for a substantial reframing of the ways historians approach the cultural history of physics and its embodiments.
