Additional information

A collaborative BBSRC funded project (Keele and Southampton) (BB/G/010579/1) demonstrated novel technology with remote stem cell activation using magnetic nanoparticles targeted to mechanosensitive ion channels. The technology is patented and is being commercialised in a spin out, MICA Biosystems Ltd ( www.micabiosystems.com). (EP01272072.8;US7,553,662; US10/596,594 )This paper has led to further funding from BBSRC (BB/G/010579/1), EPSRC (EP/I032002/1), and MRC UKRMP. The innovative work has been highlighted in the Sunday Telegraph, the Royal Academy of Engineering journal, Ingenia (Issue 49,2011) and forms the basis of projects underpinning the Royal Society Merit Award held by A. El Haj.
