Additional information

In this paper, a new interatomic potential for the nuclear fuel UO2 is obtained and used to calculate the defect properties of the material, information that is needed to understand fuel behaviour and properties. The potential is able to model defects created as a result of radiation damage, which previous potentials were unable to do. The research presented led to a new collaboration with AWE (Mark Storr, Mark.Storr@awe.co.uk)), and the funding of a PhD studentship (£62K) to extend the work to development of potentials for plutonium oxide and mixed oxide (MOX) fuel.
