Additional information

<20> Presence has the highest H-index of any specialist Virtual Reality journal (SCImago). This paper describes PIAVCA, a character animation engine Gillies developed. It has a number of novel features, particularly its modular architecture in which complex animation systems can be created by composing simple operations, enabling the creation of far more general systems than a typical engine. The paper presents a taxonomy of animation engines that makes it possible to compare a large range of engines, including Piavca. Piavca has been used in a number of research projects at Goldsmiths, UCL, Queen Mary and the University of Sussex.
