Additional information

A new structure for object-based 3D audio coding, which was co-invented by Hyunkook Lee, is described in this PCT patent. As opposed to the conventional channel-based coding, the proposed object-based coding scheme allows each audio object to be rendered individually and flexibly in 3D. The present invention renders the perceived position of individual object in 3D using a binaural synthesis technique and a HRTF database. This structure was adopted in MPEG’s recent Spatial Audio Object Coding (SAOC) standard.
