Additional information

Although crystal plasticity was established in 1970s, this is a first paper to apply the theory to model the full aspects of cyclic deformation of a polycrystalline nickel-based superalloy, including cyclic hardening and stress-relaxation as well as monotonic behaviour. The simulations compared well with the experimental results, which also revealed some of the characteristics associated the mismatch of the mechanical properties of individual grains. The work shed light on structure-property relation; and may be of particular significance in the evaluation and the prediction of crack initiation under fatigue loading conditions.
