Additional information

<29> This paper introduced a methodological and architectural framework for extending an LMS with IRT-based assessment calibration to increase the overall validity of the testing process. Its originality lies in the fact that despite using a complex approach to item evaluation (IRT), the proposed framework is user-friendly and allows users with no statistical background to comprehend and utilise the analysis results. It can be adapted to other LMSs and would be ideally suited for a MOOC environment. Optimising the latter’s extensive item pools could improve its assessment quality, thus possibly driving more institutions to offer course credit for MOOC completion.
