'Digital motherhood' : how does technology support new mothers
<20>An ethnographic field study and interviews are used to investigate new mothers and the role that technology plays in their lives – an area that HCI researchers have little investigated. The combination of social isolation (however? temporary) and rapid personal change makes this post-natal period an especially important time to study in terms of social supports. This qualitative research identified two themes among new mothers: the need to improve confidence? as a mother and the need to be more than ‘just’ a mother. The strength of the paper is its rich descriptions illustrating important aspects of? the transition to parenthood.
