Significance of output:

This paper, describes the first demonstration of nonradiative non-contact FRET energy transfer in high efficiency colour converted LEDs. Such devices are disruptive to general lighting, where colour converted LEDs currently have low efficiency. This research led directly to 5 patents (WO2010/092362, CN102396065A, GB0902569.3, US13/201,718, KR10-2011-7021547); it made a pivotal contribution to, the establishment of new international industrial collaborations (e.g. Luxtaltek and TSMC Taiwan); it resulted in £500k in-kind funding from TSMC. The research has been adopted by research leaders in the field e.g. VM Agranovich, HV Demir.
