Significance of output:

This output resulted from a series of research projects funded by National Grid and EPSRC. It describes a novel application of machine learning techniques to improve the monitoring of partial discharge in cable joints. The work is significant because it removes the need for power at the measurement point and, being optically-based, avoids induced electrical noise. The work contributed to the successful Assessing the Underworld bid (EPSRC; EP/K021699/1; £5.9M) to transform street works and improve the management of underground assets. Key players in utilities and construction have pledged over £16M support in cash and in-kind contributions.
