Significance of output:

Describes first ever model-based electrical stimulation controllers applied clinically within upper limb stroke rehabilitation. The methodology leads to accelerated rehabilitation through enforcing tracking error of <1cm at the wrist, representing a ten-fold improvement on the previous state-of-the-art. The research combined stability and performance analysis with experimental evaluation and was subsequently exploited in three clinical trials. It was instrumental in: securing EPSRC grants EP/G014078/1 and EP/I01909X/1 (total value £1.4M); a Plenary lecture invitation (IEEE 8th International Conference on Multidimensional Systems); multiple conference workshops and symposia; and is the focus of a special issue of the Journal of Process Control.
