Significance of output:

The systematic screening of ion channel-targets is important in drug discovery. This paper describes a multiplexed ion-channel recording technology for the analysis of drugs using artificial cell membranes. The paper led to further EPSRC funding (EP/H044795/1 £860,000) to enable a project with molecular biologists at Birkbeck College. Our new technology integrates custom designed low-noise ASICs with a disposable microfluidic platform to screen sodium channel activity, specifically for drugs to target pain. The technology platform is in the process of being licenced and sold through Warner Instruments, USA (confidential). This paper has featured widely in critical reviews of this new field.
