Significance of output:

A comprehensive identification of mechanisms by which self-organised silver nanoparticles modify the conversion characteristics of solar cells. This part of a considerable body of work on the application of plasmonics to photovoltaic devices was funded by EPSRC-Supergen PV21 (GR/S86341/01; 2004-2008; £5.5M total) and is part of a portfolio of work that secured EPSRC-Supergen “SuperSolar” (EP/J017361/1; 2012-2017; £4M total) and a proof-of-principle research project “Light-trapping in thin film cells” (£20K) funded by HMGCC (Chris Howard). These results have inspired major follow-on work in Europe, America, the Far East and Australasia.
