Additional information

<21>This paper was the first to show in detail how workspace awareness is maintained by multitouch tabletop users. A novel analytic framework of awareness indices was developed and validated through both qualitative and quantitative video analysis. Previous work based on analysis of system log files was challenged as providing an incomplete picture. The focus on mechanisms used to maintain workspace awareness in face-to-face collaborative interaction and video analytic methods have been adopted and developed by groups at EPFL, Microsoft Research, Wellesley and Simon Fraser.
