English abstract

Much Human Security discourse is rooted in traditional state-centric approaches that emerged in development and security studies from the 1950s onwards. This paper outlines new approaches such as human security in urban areas, the role of business, the vulnerabilities of aboriginal peoples, new global governance and tri-sector partnerships. It reviews human security approaches and institutions, critiques of the human security paradigm, and also discusses ‘growth points’ i.e. new directions in human security studies. An important contribution of this paper is to introduce Human Security to Chinese academic readers.
