<22>The research presented in this paper is the culmination of a project instigated by CORUS (UK) that successfully solved an industrial diagnostic problem. The paper presents both an improved version of the Incremental Truth Maintenance System deployed on Deep Space 1 as well as novel method for Qualitative State-based Diagnosis. The approach is verified both by proof and demonstration on the CORUS system. The work laid the foundation for future research generalizing the approach to both full Qualitative Parameter Estimation and extending the classes of problems dealt with, through further PhD research.
