'Confluences (Ranbows II)' for flute, clarinet in B, violin, violoncello, piano and real-time electronics in 5.1 surround spatialisation (MAX)
Research presented as a portfolio consisting of a composition and a paper presented to the Stockholm 'Music Acoustics and Sound and Music Computing' Conference 2013 in Sweden.
The project was conceived as an extension of the research of full automation of live-electronics and builds upon a clarinet/automatic electronics with 5.1 surround-sound piece composed and premiered in 2008 along with other more recent research.
The composition is original in that it explores how to further develop the music's dramaturgy intention from one solo piece to an ensemble piece, in which the fully automated electronics are also expanded, in order not only to process in real time the sound of five separate instruments but also to further underline dramaturgical intention. The composition is a clear example of fully automated live electronics as theorised in output 2 ('Music and Technology: What Impact does Technology have on the Dramaturgy of Music?'), underlining the holistic approach of this delivery for the REF14.
The accompanying paper analyses the progress of practice and research of two interactive compositions of the author which include both live instruments and a fully automated programming of their live-electronics using MAX: 'Intersections (memories) for clarinet' and 'Confluences (Rainbows II)'.
