Double-weighted statement

This book includes five substantive chapters which draw on separate, substantial empirical case-studies. Each piece of fieldwork involved either detailed archival work, substantial quantitative analysis (over 774 responses in the STEP study) and/or a series of in-depth qualitative interviews with senior professional figures (16 in the Work Experience study). Each complex fieldwork stage took approximately 18 months to 2 years to complete, with the final writing up taking another 18 months. The concluding chapter develops a model of contingent legal professionalism, which advances theoretical understandings of professionalism and establishes a framework for the future.
