Assessment of Regional Changes in Skeletal Metabolism Following 3 and 18 Months of Teriparatide Treatment
This paper describes the results of a clinical trial to study the regional bone metabolic effects of teriparatide in the treatment of osteoporosis using a new technique for quantification of bone metabolism that we developed [Moore, J Nuc Med, 2008]. Existing methods were restricted to either a single site at the iliac crest (bone biopsy) or the global effect across the whole skeleton (biochemical markers in serum or urine). This was the first study to show the metabolic effect of teriparatide at individual clinically important fracture sites as measured by bone tracer kinetics. This paper is published in the leading journal in the field of bone research.
