Additional information

We first demonstrated using a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator to generate versatile waveforms with sinusoidal signals. Initial experiment results were reported in ACP’10 postdeadline session and received the Best Student Presentation Award (http://www.acp-conf.org/). This paper provides comprehensive mathematic model and developed the algorithm to decide variables for generating various waveforms. This work reveals a new mechanism for arbitrary waveform generation and has been followed by another group to generate periodic triangle pulse (DOI:10.1109/LPT.2013.2253454). This work led to invited talk in ICTON’2013 (http://www.ait.upct.es/icton2013/). Collaboration with Tsinghua University on microwave-photonics application is funded by RSE-NSFC joint project (443570/NNS/INT, joint publication DOI:10.1109/LPT.2012.2230158).
