Additional information

The “double-layer” description of the screening of the electrical potential underpins the interpretation of electrochemical phenomena, but originates in the theory of dilute electrolyte solutions. The potential profile in molten salts, whose electrochemistry is involved in many technologies, differs qualitatively. This is the first simulation examining how an electrochemical charge-transfer event is influenced by the actual potential. It describes the original development of a simulation-model for a metallic electrode interacting with ions of the melt and a novel calculation of the rate of electron transfer. The first of a series of papers on the underpinning theory of new battery designs.
