Science, Politics and Society in Early Nineteenth-Century Ireland: The Reverend William Richardson
This entirely new work involved a complex analysis integrating the history of science with its Irish political and social context, showing how Irish science, in its utilitarian form of improvement, responded to legislative Union. Richardson's personal archive is lost so the project involved a complex re-construction of extensive printed and mss work. Library and archival fieldwork took three and a half years in multiple visits to Belfast (e.g., Linenhall Library), Dublin (e.g., National Archives) and London (e.g., British Library); and single trips to the Robinson Library (Armagh), University of Glasgow Special Collections, National Archives Scotland and National Library of Scotland.
