Additional information

This paper describes the development of a new fermentation end-point detection procedure, and demonstrated that improvements were made to the temperature control system. The generic nature of the approaches was verified using an antibiotic fermentation example from Sandoz (contact: Georg Kornfeld; Georg.kornfeld@sandoz.com). The predictive capability allows improved scheduling decisions to be made in the latter stages of batch process operation.
