Additional information

This is the first paper to model polymerisation kinetics in a spinning disc reactor (SDR) and to provide a mechanistic explanation for the rate enhancements observed in a number of earlier experimental studies of thin film polymerisations in the SDR. The mechanistic aspects of this modelling study have been subsequently applied in two industrially funded projects by Cray Valley France (a subsidiary company of Total Oil; contact [jacques.faure@crayvalley.com]), and Eastman Chemicals Company, The Netherlands (contact: Gerard Keijzer, [gkeijzer@eastman.com]), both of which were related to assessing the feasibility of SDR application to industrially relevant polymerisation processes.
