De Montfort University
The Mobile Audience Media Art and Mobile Technologies
This edited book, which includes two authored chapters, was the fruit of an AHRC research leave grant and of five years intensive research into an emergent field. It includes essays by leading media and cultural theorists, and case studies of pioneering practitioner’s work together with interviews with leading artists. As such it forms a coherent and significant body of initial documentation, focussing on the audience experience and the cultural, social and experiential shifts brought about by the advent of located and pervasive technologies used for artistic purposes.
The book is accompanied by a much quoted weblog www.mobileaudience.blogspot.com and is the first comprehensive attempt to understand the implications of the new languages and contexts of interaction necessitated by the spread of this technology into artistic practice.
The work was carefully researched over three years. It has led to wide recognition and a number of articles and conference keynotes and other presentations.
