State of the Art: cutting edge digital technologies explored through the creative design of Product Artist Lionel Theodore Dean
State of the Art was a 50 square metre solo exhibition commissioned for the 2011 EuroMold trade fair Frankfurt Germany; a major international manufacturing industry event and the leading exhibition for additive manufacturing (3D Printing) technologies. The exhibition comprised a series of 13 collaborative projects between the author and partners in industry and academia including partners from the USA, Israel, Germany and the UK. The projects involved the creative exploration of emergent digital technologies including computational fluid dynamics, topological optimisation and embedded
technology. Each project was illustrated by a 3D printed artefact produced using a range of technologies including direct metal additive manufacture. The pieces were presented as art-works highly finished via a range of techniques including the Micro Machining Process, MMP, and metal plated plastic.
