Discretisation of diffusive fluxes on hybrid grids
The accurate, consistent, monotonic and conservative discretisation of viscous fluxes for CFD has been an unfulfilled quest over the past decade with a number of contributions. For the first time we present a comprehensive comparison of the typical approaches which highlights key shortcomings of the various methods. We present an alternative performing significantly better than current approximations than typical finite volume discretisations. The novel methods presents major advantages in particular for simulations that resolve unsteady turbulence. The work is part of an ongoing collaboration with the CFD group at CERFACS, (www.cerfacs.fr), one of the leading groups in this field worldwide.
