Additional information
The paper documents a systematic audit of design case studies in four of the leading design research journals, along with a detailed analysis of the type, subject and field of research identified within the leading journal Design Studies since 1979. The paper was cited as an important contribution to the formation of a body of ‘design knowledge’ through case studies by the conference reviewer Fiona Maciver, Dublin Institute of Technology.
The paper addresses a gap in the design pedagogy literature concerning the use and role of case based teaching and reasoning in primarily studio based learning environments.
