This paper concerns essential computational, mathematical and numerical issues in cardiac organ modelling that previous researchers in the field have overlooked, ignored or not written up. Pitt-Francis’s work on convergence reported here has influenced later verification papers (Niederer, 2011, Phil. Trans. A) and subsequent analysis of numerical schemes (Pathmanathan, 2012, Int. J. Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering). This led to collaboration with the FDA on assessing computational electrophysiological code for Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification.
