Additional information

This paper describes the unique characterisation of the “restrained” shrinkage behaviour of shape memory polymers and the development of a thermo-mechanical model for simulating their behaviour. This is an essential component in the development of the new LatconX material system (paper 3) and facilitates the simulation and design of full scale elements using this technology that cannot as yet be manufactured. The work has contributed to the award of the £1.67M EPSRC project 'Materials for Life' (EP/K026631/1) and will provide a platform for the design of elements for the demonstration projects that are being funded by Costain (Tim.Embley@Costain.com).
