Additional information

A novel approach for fatigue assessment of steel/aluminium welded joints under multiaxial fatigue loading is formalised and then validated against a large experimental dataset. By taking full advantage of the reference radius concept, this approach can be used to design welded components against fatigue (the stress analysis is performed by post-processing results from standard linear-elastic finite-element models). The accuracy and reliability of this new multiaxial method is being evaluated by Commission XIII of the International Institute of Welding (www.iiwelding.org, Prof. G. Marquis: gary.marquis@aalto.fi)
