Surrealism and Photography in Czechoslovakia

Walker became interested in the subject when working in the archives in Prague and Brno in 1992-3. Some extraordinary surrealist photography was produced in Czechoslovakia, but is scarcely known outside. The book aims to make this corpus, and the artists who produced it, better known.
Aiming to produce a study that is richer, more nuanced and more confident than he might have achieved alone, Walker worked with Fijalkowski and Richardson, scholars of surrealism rather than photography, with well-established relationships with present-day Czech surrealists.
