Additional information

The significance of the work is that it proposes a novel class of difference equation (DE) algorithms for in-situ blind characterisation of thermocouples used for measuring rapid fluctuations. Unlike existing algorithms, the DE method gives a rigorous system identification framework that addresses biased estimation and provides substantial performance gains which have been shown in a comprehensive series of publications. Successful application in an internal combustion engine was described in SAE 2006-01-1319. The techniques developed at QUB were adopted by researchers at Oxford University, and research into their application continues at Universität Darmstadt - http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.conengprac.2009.11.008
