A fuzzy logic control system to optimize the combination of electrolytic hydrogen production, fuel cells and solar PV electricity production, using hydrogen as an energy carrier to extend the utility of the solar energy was proposed. The complexity of power management in such systems is reduced by the fuzzy system described, which is able to increase overall system efficiency. The paper is significant in proposing a viable system for independent off-grid operation for the many existing small business units or similar facilities. The work was funded by the CymruH2Wales project, part of the ERDF funded LCRI Convergence Energy Programme.
